Medical Oncology
If your breast cancer requires hormone therapy, chemotherapy, or the newer targeted therapies, the doctor who prescribes and delivers your care at the Breast Care Center is a medical oncologist. A medical oncologist is a physician who is educated in medicine with a specialty in cancer care. In the Breast Care Center, our medical oncologists subspecialize in the management of breast cancer care. They monitor a patient from diagnosis and through the course of active therapy. And, together with your primary care physician, they direct individualized plans for follow-up care (survivorship).
Medical oncology's tools for treatment include chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and targeted therapy. Your medical oncologist works with you to inform and educate you about your disease, discuss treatment options, and manage your symptoms and the process of treatment and healing.
