The Tile Project
The tile project creates a way that patients, family, and friends can come together and tell stories, which are then inscribed onto large, ceramic tiles. The tiles adorn the entry corridor within the Cancer Center. They create a colorful tapestry of stories, each symbolic of an individual's battle with cancer. Together, the tiles create a powerful reminder of the sprit, courage, hopes, and fears of those dealing with cancer. The tile wall extends from floor to ceiling, and faces the Healing Garden.
Says Ann Chamberlain, director of the tile project:
"In the course of my own treatment for breast cancer, I have been impressed by the network of patients and support groups that bring people together, enabling us to find strength in talking to each other, sharing information and personal experiences. The healing garden and tile wall value the experiences of patients and will lend support to others in years to come.
