The ways in which women meet their needs for emotional support are as diverse as are the women. It seems to be important to match the type of support to you and who you are. What has worked, not worked for you in times of prior stress or crisis? Many people benefit from emotional support and report that they have "made it through" in part because of that help. Most women do discover that it is important to have a source for help outside loved ones which is why support groups and "buddy" programs including connections with women who have been there are so important.
The UCSF Carol Franc Breast Care Center and the UCSF Clinical Cancer Center offer a variety of personal support programs. These support services are designed to meet the diverse needs of patients and families dealing with breast cancer at varying stages of disease.
