Screening for Breast Diseases or Risk
Screening is usually considered to be tests used to screen for breast diseases or risk for disease when there are no symptoms. Since screening may find breast cancer at an early stage, it may decrease the risk of dying from the disease. At the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center, we perform screening for both breast cancer and breast cancer risk, and actively study screening tests to find those with the fewest risks and most benefits.
The two tests most commonly used by health care providers to screen for breast cancer are mammograms and clinical breast exams, but screening may also involved MRI and tissue sampling.
