Larry Margolis

Larry Margolis, MD
Radiation Oncologist
Clinical Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, UCSF

Dr. Larry Margolis is a radiation oncologist and clinical professor in the department of radiation oncology at UCSF. He specialized in breast cancer research and treatment because he wanted to advance the state-of-the-art in our knowledge about the condition, and to offer women with breast cancer the best possible treatment options.

Dr. Margolis helped to develop programs in the Bay Area to make breast-cancer surgery less invasive and traumatic. Along with other prominent physicians, he has demonstrated that women with breast cancer do not necessarily need a mastectomy: that in most cases, they do just as well with breast-conservation surgery combined with radiation therapy. Dr. Margolis believes in a multidisciplinary approach to breast-cancer treatment since patients are best served by having access to all medical modalities.

Dr. Margolis received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, and completed his residency and fellowship in radiation oncology at the University of California at San Francisco. He joined the UCSF faculty in 1969.

He has received numerous honors and awards, including a listing in the Best Doctors in America, Pacific Region-General Radiation Oncology, Breast Cancer and Skin Cancer; and a listing in the San Francisco Focus Magazine in March 1997 as one of the Best Doctors in the Bay Area for Radiation in Breast and Skin Cancer.

In his free time, Dr. Margolis likes to spend time with his family, ride bikes and coach and watch sports.
