Karen Todd Lane, MD
Karen Lane joined the UCSF faculty in 2002 as an assistant professor in residence. Among her clinical research interests are young women diagnosed with breast cancer and breast cancer recurrence.
Dr. Lane is also on staff at the San Francisco General Hospital Breast Clinic which serves underprivileged women. She is active in developing educational materials for this group of patients.
Dr. Lane completed her general surgery residency at UCLA, during which she conducted basic science research in pancreatic physiology. She then spent a year training in the UCLA Division of Surgical Oncology, where she dealt with various aspects of cancer, including pancreatic cancer, sarcoma, melanoma and metastatic liver lesions. It was here that she developed a particular interest in breast cancer.
Dr. Lane spent two years as clinical instructor at UCLA in the Division of Surgical Oncology and on the faculty of the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center. She served as a board member for Friends of the Breast Center, an organization dedicated to fundraising for breast cancer research and patient care. She is also active in lecturing to community physicians and women's groups about breast cancer treatment and risk reduction, and she has published writings on the subject.
Dr. Lane's spare time is devoted to her baby girl, Jessica Katina Lane, born last October.
