Breast Cancer Complementary
Support Program Opens
The Breast Cancer Complementary Support Program offers a number of services to women living with breast cancer. The purpose of our programs is to create a holistic, healing environment that draws on mind/body practices. Women are introduced to a number of complementary modalities, including art, dance therapy, group support, meditation, guided imagery, yoga and health education. Our programs create a community where women can meet others who are facing similar challenges and work with a dedicated, multidisciplinary staff to effectively learn alternative methods for coping, stress reduction, life style change, and self-healing.
We offer three types of programs through out the year:
- A 12-week intensive program that meets twice weekly for a total of five hours per week with an optional two additional hours
- A one day, non-residential retreat
- A residential two day retreat
Nominal fees are charged for our programs and scholarships are available.
Our programs are offered through the generous support of UCSF at Mount Zion, the Institute of Health and Healing at CPMC, and the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at UCSF. A previous research trial, the Personal Support and Lifestyle Intervention Program of UCSF/CPMC directed by Laura Esserman, M.B.A., M.D., was the basis for the development of this clinical service.
