Follow-up Program
Our Follow-Up program is based on the idea that all of our patients should have some form of continued care, based on each person's individual needs and concerns.
Once women have completed all of their breast cancer treatment and have been doing well for a sufficient period of time (the length of which will depend on the individual's cancer story), their oncologist or breast surgeon will refer them to the Follow-Up program.
Women are seen in the Follow-Up program by either one our nurse practitioners or by our gynecologist, Dr. Mindy Goldman. They will be seen on a regular basis to ensure that there is no recurrence of cancer and to assess the comprehensive long-term health care needs of each breast cancer survivor.
In particular, many women may be dealing with issues related to early menopause from either chemotherapy or hormonal treatments. Some women may notice changes in their sexual functioning, mood or sleep patterns. For some women, fertility and pregnancy after breast cancer is a concern.
When needed and chosen, patients may also be referred for evaluation and possible referral for therapy by the psychologist in our practice, Dr. Debra Marks. And if abnormal screening tests or recurrences of breast cancer do occur, women will be referred back to their breast surgeon or medical oncologist, as needed.
