• Remember that, when buying a wig, it is not always necessary to spend a lot of money. There are many synthetic wigs that are as attractive as real human hair wigs. In addition, hair wigs may require expensive care. Also, beware of having to buy expensive shampoo for wig care. It is usually not necessary.

• Some women recommend buying a full, uncut wig and having it cut and styled to your liking.

• We recommend that you purchase a wig before your hair falls out so that your natural hair color can be matched best.

• The shops and salons do not deal with insurance companies. However, many will give discounts and/or waive the state tax with a physician's prescription.

• Shops and salons recommend that you submit the invoice from their shop to your insurance company for reimbursement.

• The Cancer Resource Center and the Infusion Center host the American Cancer Society's "Look Good... Feel Better" workshops which provide hair styling and make-up tips for women undergoing chemotherapy. Please call 415.885.3693 for more information.
