A. Jo Chien, MD
Breast Oncologist
Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine
Biography
Dr. Chien joined our faculty in September 2009 after two years at UCSF as a Hematology/Oncology Fellow. In addition to seeing patients at the Breast Care Center, she pursues several areas of research. Dr. Chien works with Mark Moasser, MD in his ongoing study of HER2 using Lapatinib in early stage breast cancer. She and Mitch Rosen, MD, a UCSF reproductive endocrinologist, also investigate how breast cancer diagnosis and treatment affects fertility. Dr. Chien interests also include new agents for identifying high risk, early stage breast cancer. Originally from the Bay Area, Dr. Chien took her BS with Honors in Biology from Stanford University. After completing medical school and an Internal Medicine residency at Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital, respectively, she returned to the San Francisco area to study hematology and oncology at UCSF. When Dr. Chien is not working, she loves the out-of doors. She hikes and runs to relax. On longer breaks, she finds the call of far away places impossible to ignore and has traveled extensively in Asia and Europe.
