Michael D. Alvarado, MD

Biography

Dr. Michael Alvarado received his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University, his master's degree in chemistry from the University of Arizona and his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. After completing his residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, he served as a surgical oncology fellow at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute at the University of South Florida. He conducted research there in the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology on comparative gene expression profiling of stage III colon cancer, and studied the utility of sentinel lymph node biopsy for patients undergoing prophylactic mastectomy.

Dr. Alvarado enjoys being an integral part of the patient-centered interdisciplinary team at the Breast Care Center. His clinical and research interests include partial breast irradiation trials and investigating blood-based and molecular markers to improve breast cancer screening.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Alvarado is an avid runner and cyclist. He can be found running the trails in the Marin Headlands or cycling through Northern California's wine country.
